The Opening Hours

Lost Soul Aside opens with a dramatic prologue that introduces the world's central conflictimensional invaders tearing through the sky, and Kael's personal stake in the fight. You begin in a ruined city overrun by otherworldly creatures, with the game's tutorial woven directly into the first combat encounters.

The opening section is a hands-on tutorial, introducing basic movement, camera controls, light and heavy attacks, and the all-important dodge mechanic. Pay close attention during these first encounters: the fundamentals taught here are the foundation of everything you'll do for the rest of the game.

Understanding the Interface

The game's heads-up display keeps vital information front and center:

• Health Bar: Your current HP. When depleted, you restart from the last checkpoint. Monitor it closely during boss fights.
• Energy/Resource Gaugeowers your special abilities and weapon arts. Refills by landing successful attacks on enemies.
• Weapon Form Indicator: Shows your currently active weapon form. Each form has different properties and move sets.
• Lock-On Target: When locked onto an enemy, a reticle appears around them. Essential for precise combat, especially against faster foes.
• Objective Marker: A directional indicator guiding you toward the next story objective.

The basic flow works like this: build momentum with light attack strings, then spend that momentum on heavy attacks and special abilities for big damage. Learn to read enemy tells: most attacks have a clear wind-up animation that tells you when to dodge or parry.

Weapon Forms

One of the game's key mechanics is the ability to switch between different weapon forms mid-combat. Early on you'll have access to a balanced sword form. As you progress, you unlock additional forms that offer different advantages: faster attack speed, longer reach, heavier damage, or unique properties. Switching forms at the right moment is essential for maintaining offensive pressure.

Resource Management

Your special abilities consume a resource that recharges by landing successful attacks. This creates a natural combat loop: attack to build resource, spend resource on powerful abilities, then return to basic attacks. Being too conservative means you're leaving damage on the table, but blowing all your resource at once leaves you vulnerable. Find the rhythm that works for your playstyle.

Your First Few Hours

The game's pacing ramps up gradually. Here's what to focus on during your first play session:

• Master the dodge timing. The invincibility frames on your dodge are generous but not unlimited. Practice dodging through attacks rather than away from them: this keeps you in position to counter-attack.
• Experiment with all available weapon forms. The first area gives you opportunities to test different forms against different enemy types. Find what feels best before investing resources.
• Explore every side path. The early areas have optional routes that contain upgrade materials, consumable items, and lore documents that deepen the story.
• Talk to every NPC. Characters in towns and safe zones often provide hints about where to find hidden items or how to approach upcoming challenges.
• Rest at checkpoints. Checkpoints (glowing crystals or monuments) restore your health and resources. They also acts as fast travel points once unlocked.

Skill Point Allocation

As you defeat enemies and complete objectives, you earn experience that levels up Kael and grants skill points. The skill tree branches into several specializations. For a first playthrough, we recommend a balanced approach:

• Combat Fundamentals: Unlock basic combo extensions and improved dodge recovery early. These benefit every playstyle.
• Weapon Proficiency: Invest in the weapon form you enjoy most. Specialized upgrades for your preferred form pay off significantly.
• Survivabilityon't neglect health upgrades and defensive passives. A bigger health pool gives you more room to learn boss patterns.
• Special Abilities: Unlock at least one or two special abilities early. They provide burst damage options and utility in tough situations.
